A pap smear is to check for cervical cancer. It doesn't check for ovarian or uterine cancer. You should get a pap once a year and usually a family doctor can do this or a ob/gyn. Also, my doc checks for lumps on my breasts as part of the exam.
If you are 18, not sexually active or have any other female issues, then I would discuss this with your doc to see how often to get a pap.
