hey there
im 15 and im hella worried about this “hiv” buisiness
my girlfriend in november went to the physicians about a sore throat and they said they’d to check for hiv just because they’d to check.
so she tells me she gets the results on saturday (28th feb) and im really scared, shes not worried at all and all my emotions are getting me stressed etc.
just gonna ask, how possible is it for her to have HIV? herself and I have only been with each other sexually not anyone else.
please help me to set my mind straight, i kno theres probs nothing to worry about but still thought i'd get your view,
thanks
Answer:
A sore throat, as someone pointed out, can be caused by many things. Exposure to HIV can cause a sore throat, sometimes really bad, but not necessarily.
From site below: “After first being infected, a person may have no symptoms for a long time. Sometimes they'll get what they might think of as just some kind of “flu”. Such symptoms tend to be a fever, headache, a rash, sore throat, and swollen lymph glands. Since, if they get these “flu”-type symptoms, they'll usually happen between two to six weeks after they actually get infected, most people would not connect what they think is a regular “flu”, to being infected with HIV. “
After all that, the odds of HIV being a factor here are extraordinarily low. One of you'd have to have been exposed- presumably you, or her with another partner, for her to get an HIV related sore throat recently. The info you've given us doesn't indicate that is possible, if that information is true.
Having said that, I'd recommend that at 15, it might be superior for both of you to cool down the sex and embrace your emotions and feeling safe with each other, at least for a while. Sex will always be available to you when you are a bit older and can handle possible consequences a tiny easier.
Answer:
HIV is not just limited to sexual intercourse. For example if your girlfriend had an open cut that was exposed to blood that was HIV+ there's a chance she could've gotten it, if she shot up and used someone elses needle and they were HIV+ she could've gotten it. The list goes on and on, but if she's been safe and hasn't done any of that, and neither have you it was probably just a sore throat
Answer:
You've got very little to worry about. The major transmission routes are drug abuse, especially IV drug abuse, and unprotected sex, and if you're each other's first partners, you are unlikely to be at risk.
You mention nothing about drugs, so assuming you're both sensible, which going by your use of condoms you sound to be, there really isn't anything to worry about.
Answer:
It's unlikely she has HIV, you've been protected and I'm assuming you dont have it so unless she's cheated with someone that has it… she won't have it… but it can also take up to 6 months for the disease to show up in tests so keep a regular schedule about getting tested (both of you) and do the tests not only for HIV but all other diseases too… early recognition is VERY VERY important for any disease! Anyway, stay calm and just wait for the results, it's most likely negative.
Answer:
sore throat means less than AIDS. Strep, cold etcetera. If you had AIDS one of your lymph glands would swell so bad you would be in major pain. If however you were in the early stages of HIV nothing would show. It is nearly impossible to get withg protected sex.
Answer:
The only ways to get it is through sexual intercourse, infected needles and mom to child, however sexual intercourse could include oral and anal. Im sure there’s nothing to worry about
Answer:
It is standard to test for sexually transmitted diseases for anyone who is sexually active. Hell, I'm a married woman and I get tested for all STI's each year during my annual physical. It's just what they do. There is no reason to freak out.
Answer:
HIV isn’t just contracted by sexual intercourse. Have a look at it on google or wikipedia. Rarely kids can contract it from their mom if she had a HIV+ status, but this is very rare now due to good medical care.
It would seem unlikely.
Answer:
Just a swift one? it's the 'quick one's' that cause most of the HIV's..
