Hi. i'm new to yahoo answers. So about 4 days ago, my doctor told me i had herpes type 1. i'm so scared. i don't know what exactly that’s. so i have a few questions:
1). If i have herpes type 1, why haven't I had any outbreaks or cold sores yet?
2). I still want to drink and eat off of people. Is it safe & usual to do so?
3).I gave oral & kissed someone, So does that mean they're going to get it for sure?
4).Should I be dreading over this? Is it something big that can ruin my life?
5) If one person gets herpes type 1 from their childhood and one person gets it from oral sex or kissing, is it any different?
6).Do most people not know that they have it?
7)Is it possible to have it, but never have an outbreak in your entire life?
8).Would it be normal to just forget I ever had this, not warn people that I’ve it, & just go along with my life?
Sorry so many questions, i'm just very worried & i don't know what to do.

Answer:
1). If i have herpes type 1, why haven't I had any outbreaks or cold sores yet?
They might come later- maybe never. But probably they’ll come. They’re just cold sores and estimates run from 50% to 80% of people have herpes type 1 (HSV-1). The cold sore outbreaks will likely get less severe and happen less often as time goes by.

2). I still want to drink and eat off of people. Is it safe & usual to do so?
That is never suggested, not just because of HSV-1 but other diseases like meningitis. If you ate from their dish, spoon or whatever, you may get something they’ve…maybe that's how you got HSV-1? Or maybe you got it from a good kiss or a kiss from your Aunt Bertha.

3).I gave oral & kissed someone, So does that mean they're going to get it for sure?
Not for sure. Kissing…it's high risk especially if you have an outbreak. It's lower risk most of the time that you don't have an outbreak but, if there’s any invisible “viral shedding”, you could pass it on. As for oral sex, the HSV-1 virus that you *probably* have can be transmitted to genitals. It doesn't happen as easily as going from mouth to mouth with HSV-1, but it could happen. IF it does, that person has HSV-1 herpes but it is still “genital herpes”. Most often, HSV-2 is the strain found on the genitals. It too can find its way to a mouth and while it prefers the genitals, it sometimes sets up home on the mouth. Is it possible you contracted HSV-2 from the oral sex? The Doc said HSV-1, probably because that was by far the most likely kind. Did s/he know about the oral sex?

4).Should I be dreading over this? Is it something big that can ruin my life?
It won't ruin your life- you need to be a bit more cautious, especially if giving oral sex. If it's just HSV-1, like I said, millions have it and the symptoms usually fade with time.

5) If one person gets herpes type 1 from their childhood and one person gets it from oral sex or kissing, is it any different?

If it's type 1, it's type 1. You can always blame your Aunt Bertha.

6).Do most people not know that they’ve it?
I think there are probably very many who don't know.

7)Is it possible to have it, but never have an outbreak in your entire life?
Not sure i can answer for sure but it seems like some people don't have any outbreak.

8).Would it be normal to just forget I ever had this, not warn people that I’ve it, & just go along with my life?

If it's a possibility that you could pass on cold sores, I think you should tell guys (I presume) that sometimes you get cold sores. There's a good chance they do too or they've used to. But it's only fair to tell them of the possibility. Wouldn't you want someone to tell you? As for oral sex, I think that should be taken a bit more seriously because it's such a private and emotional thing compared to “a cold sore” on someone's lips.

I hoe this answers your questions well enough. You can learn more at the link below

Answer:
type 1 is the cold sore form of herpes. if you never had a cold sore then why did he tell you you have it? chicken pox is related to it, did you have that? its ok for everything unless you have an actual cold sore, then don't kiss anyone (anywhere). it is possible to have it and not have an outbreak, my brother has it, and he gets a cold sore every 5 years or so.
