Do you’ve to be sexually active to get HPV diseases/cervical cancer? I'm 15 and I'm supposed to get Gardasil. I want to hold it off for a few more years because I heard it hurts and I hate needles. But my doctor insists I get it because I might have sex. But I never had sex and I don't plan to anytime soon, especially during high school!

But can you get HPV diseases even if you don't have sex? Because in that case, I would get Gardasil…

Answer:
If you don't plan on being sexually active anytime soon, I'd state hold off on it. It is a new drug and people have NO IDEA what kind of long term side effects it could have. Hell, it could make you infertile or cause different kinds of cancer in the long run. We don't know. Don't let your doc pressure you if you're not at risk.

Answer:
GARDASIL is the only cervical cancer vaccine that helps protect against 4 types of human papillomavirus (HPV): 2 types that cause 70% of cervical cancer cases, and 2 more types that cause 90% of genital warts cases. GARDASIL is for girls and young women ages 9 to 26.

GARDASIL may not fully protect everyone, and does not prevent all types of cervical cancer, so it’s important to continue routine cervical cancer screenings. GARDASIL won’t protect against diseases caused by other HPV types or against diseases not caused by HPV.

The side effects include pain, swelling, itching, and redness at the injection site, fever, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and fainting. GARDASIL is given as 3 injections over 6 months.

For more info go to this website(http://www.gardasil.com/hpv/) Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!!

Answer:
According to the NIH: “If you’re (or have ever been) sexually active, you’re at risk for HPV. Nearly all HPV that affects the cervix is spread by sex (through intimate genital-to-genital contact, including vaginal or anal intercourse, finger to genital contact, and finger to anal contact). It is rarely spread through oral sex.”

You can wait until your early 20's to get the shots- so if you decide later to get it- then you can!

Answer:
You only get HPV from sex. You should do some research on the net about some very bad side effects of the vaccine and talk to your parents and physician about it. My daughter is 16 and I don't want her to take it yet. I don't think it's been out that long and they don't really know all the effects of it yet. (Girls have become paralyzed from it.) If you're not sexually active, I'd put it off.

Answer:
Well, in certain types of heavy petting, it is “possible” that you could get an STD… but not likely.

But let me put it to you this way… You don't wait until you are planning on being exposed to measles to get the measles vaccine… right? You get it so you don't have to worry about when (and if) the time comes. Just get it over with and then you don't have to worry.

Answer:
you could be born with a strain of HPV…It is really common and sometimes no one knows you’ve it until you actually get cancer….Even if you're not having sex now, you will someday and it's good to just get the whole vaccination thing out of the way now

Answer:
I’m not trying to scare you at all but I actually saw something on the news a few weeks ago about girls your age getting it and its causing medical problems that arent related to the purpose with some of the girls. Like nerve issues and things like that.

Answer:
It is never healthy to avoid medical precautions with concerns about “it hurts” and hating needles. I pray you never get Diabetes sweetheart! I think you should take the treatment, and then stick to your guns and remain abstinent.

Answer:
HPV is a sexually transmitted disease there are several strains of it, the most common strains are those that cause gential warts and cervical cancer….cervical cancer is uncommon in young women your age
