Hey everyone.
Can gynecologists test their patients for STD's?

Experienced and mature answers only please.

Answer:
Hi Betty! Gynecologists (GYN) can order an STD screen for some of the STDs, but rarely do for all because of the high costs. Such tests might cover a Pap smear for HPV (human papillomavirus) and chlamydia and herpes viruses), a smear or culture for gonorrhea, and blood serum tests for syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis. You might also seek an STD screen from a local county or hospital STD clinic. Ask whoever offers to test, which tests are actually done. If your sex partner or you’ve any other partners, or if you don't know, then it is wise to get tested once a year. Sexually active persons with more than one partner are apt to eventually get herpes and the HPV virus. Always use protection till your partner and you no longer are sexually active with anyone else but with each other.

Answer:
yes. during a pap smear they have the ability to culture you for gonorrhea and chlamydia(?sp). blood tests can test for herpes, hiv and syphilis. you need to ask generally. during a routine exam they are testing for abnormal cervical cells not stds.
