My physician just told me I’ve a mild case of dysplasia which is caused by HPV. Is there any other way Dysplasia can be caused? Too much sugar or not enough of something? I've been with my bf since 2006. My 05,06 and 07 paps were all normal. but my 08 pap was abnormal. I just got the colposcopy and biopsy and doc calls me with the results this day. My BF says he hasn't done anything with anyone else. Can I believe that?

Please give me any help that you can. I'm so upset.

Answer:
Sugar doesn't give dysplasia. Diet and whatnot do not cause that, it is caused by a virus and that's it. No getting around that. Although, it is possible to catch it from touching a lesion on someone and then touching yourself. Although, you have to keep in mind that hpv can lie “dormant” for very long periods of time, even years, before it causes any symptoms. And the strains most apt to cause no symptoms are actually the ones that cause cervical cancer / dysplasia. So basically if you trust your boyfriend, it's possible that either of you had caught this before you got together (if either of you has had previous partners) and passed it on unknowingly. If neither of you has been with anyone else before this relationship, there's a 99% chance he's lying and brought this to you from someone else.

Answer:
Approximately 130 HPV types have been identified.
About 30-40 HPV types are typically transmitted through sexual contact and infect the anogenital region
