i suffer from recurrent herpes for a year and i take aciclovir frequently im over 10 weeks pregnant. is it safe to keep on taking the med im so worried incase i could have past this on the baby or i might do so later on. grateful for reply thanks x

Answer:
I am pregnant and also have recurrent outbreaks. This my second pregnancy and I delivered my daughter vaginally, without any problems.

The real problem comes into play if you’re having an active outbreak at the time of your delivery, in which case the physician will perform a c-section. Also, the greatest risk is if you actually contract the virus during your third trimester of pregnancy. Since you already have the virus in your body, your body has antibodies that’ll also help protect the baby.

I'm taking Valtrex when I have outbreaks and also the doctor told me at 35 weeks to take it each day to help prevent an outbreak at the time of my delivery.

If you’re worried you really should speak to your physician, they have the ability to give you all of the information you need to put your mind at ease.

Good Luck to you.

Answer:
it is my understanding that you cannot pass the virus on to your fetus unless you’re having an outbreak during a vaginal delivery. if you are having an outbreak around the delivery time, your doctor will probably have to do a Cesarean.

i have also been told that although the virus won’t pass to the fetus while you’re pregnant, the antibodies for the virus will. this may grant your baby some extra immunity against HSV infection.

about the drugs: you should go to the physician and speak this through. i guess it all depends on how often you have outbreaks. however i have also read that taking certain medications, especially early on in pregnancy as you’re, may not be a good idea.

i know everyone hates this answer, but go to an ob/gyn and discuss this.

Answer:
some medications are safe to take during pregnancy, u can check out babycenter.com for that. from talking to my doctor i know that Valtrex is safe to take durring pregnancy. maybe u should ask your doctor to be safe, but i don't think a doctor would prescribe something that wasnt safe to take during pregnancy.

if u take medication during pregnacy, then that’ll make it less likely for u to pass herpes onto your baby. plus it can suppress out breaks, if u have no out breaks at the time of delivery u can have a vaginal birth. try not to worry too much, get depressed or stressed out doing this may only cause more out breaks.
