I had a (rt) varicosectomy performed two days ago and I was wondering if I should notice any immediate changes in the size or shape of the vericocele. At this stage, the surgery has caused a very discomforting 2-1/2″ incision in my lower abdomen, some lower back pain, and nausea from the anesthesia yet no improvement and/or change in the actual vericocele (the reason for the procedure).

Answer:
First of all, healing takes more time than three days.

Second, you won't start to see a difference until the swelling and bruising has gone down, allowing for the body to then concentrate on resorbing around the varicocele to shrink it down.

It took a while for the varicosity to get bad enough for surgery- so realize that it takes a while to heal from surgery!

What do your post-op discharge papers tell you about what to expect?
