Your husband is what weight lifters would call a "hard gainer". There is no simple explanation and there are many routes one could take to solve this problem if that's what you want to call it. 1st you need to understand that metabolism has a lot to do with weight gain. When a metabolism is fast it is harder to gain weight. Most people's metabolisms slow down as they get older and therefore begin to gain body mass and fat. As i stated above there are many ways to gain mass when you are a "hard gainer". I am one of those but i have found a way that worked for me to get up to where i am today.

1st rule is that he must start eating cleaner foods. If your husband is eating Burger King all the time or frozen dinners and other crap like that he it does not necessarily mean he will gain weight. As a matter of fact he may end up just causing heart problems and other issues like diabetes. He needs to eating the right amounts of proteins, carbs, and healthy fats. Make sure he is eating his share of eggs, chicken, fish, etc. for protein and breads, pastas, etc. for his carbs. The hard part is finding the right foods with the good fats that contain healthier proteins and carbs. Get him to the bookstore to do research about gaining weight or take him to the gym and hire a nutritionist. They are cheap and will set him up with a good program.

Next if he is serious about gaining weight and his health in general then he better get active. In order for the nutrients that he is eating to get absorbed more efficiently the blood has to be pumping efficiently. This is done by following a cardio exercise program. It is also a great idea to get him into weight lifting. As long as he starts slow and learns the game he will gain the weight he wants.

When i was 17 i was 5"10 and about 130 lbs. It seemed like it was impossible to gain weight for me. So i began getting interested in weight lifting and although my diet was crappy i was able to add 15 lbs. of muscle within my first 3 years of training. As i started to tweak my diet and continue to add cardio and lifting i am now up to around 165 lbs. and i am 26 years old. I am happy where i am right now although i wouldn't mind gaining a little more. I used to read Muscle Media 2000 all the time by EAS. Now more than ever there are a lot of great people to follow. Look up some before and after pictures who were in the Body-For-Life Program by EAS and order a success story and workout packet that a person followed who had the same goals as your husband.

Good luck!

Answer:
Has your husband been checked for allergies. I was severely lactose intolerance and would drop weight like crazy despite eating 4 times a day. Since laying off the dairy I've gained a little bit more weight. Hope that helps. Report It

Answer:
Well, I don't believe you should really CARE if your husband weighs a lot or not. You DID marry him, right?

But, have you ever heard of the Somatotype theory? I don't really believe it in it's entirety, because it's like saying almost everything we do is "inborn" and unchangeable, but, I digress.

The Somatotype theory talks of 3 different body types: The Ectomorph, Mesomorph, and Endomorph.

A brief description would be that Ectomorphs are the skinny and wiry looking guys, who have a very hard time putting on weight and muscle. They generally have to eat about 5-7 times a day (Most of it is just heavy snacks) to retain and gain mass.

Mesomorphs are the lean and muscular guys, they are naturally muscular and do not have a hard time gaining muscle mass and retaining a "lean" physique.

And then, we have the Endomorphs. The Endomorphs are the chubby guys who have an easy time gaining muscle, but, they also gain fat just as easily. I've heard that they gain muscle faster than the Mesomorph, but the fat they gain in almost equal proportion covers up all that muscle.

From what you're speaking of about your husband, I'd say he's an Ectomorph, if you believe that annoying theory.

I don't, but if you do, you do.

Answer:
He might just be predisposed to be a small thin man. How do other men in his family look.

But, remember he is still pretty young, He will most likely begin to fill out in a few years.

Sometimes, it takes for the wife to get pregnant for the man to put on some weight.

Feed him things that have good amounts of protein. If he likes peanut butter, give it to him. Give him chicken, and nuts if he likes them.

I know that it sounds terrible but, if he likes sweets, give him some sweets as well, as long as he doesn't get hooked on them.

People with a high metabolism, eat a lot because their body burns up whatever they put in.

Think of it this way, You can thank God that you kids will have one side of the family genes that predisposes them to be on the thin side.

Answer:
As a typical guy, he may not care if you ask him to gain weight. Or if you both already duscussed it and he agrees to do so… Bacon. Choose High Calorie foods, some muscle weight from working out is just fine too.

I am a weight gainer, I am only 125 pounds so yeah… I am trying to gain weight so I choose high calorie foodsandlift weights.

Answer:
I'll give you a short and sweet answer. Give him about 3500 calories a day and he should technically gain weight. I personally weighed 94 when I was sick and in 4 months gained 37 lbs by drinking 2 gallons of unpasteurized milk every week.

Answer:
If he has already seen a doctor - and his health is good - then his weight maybe determined by many things.

Metabolic rate

Calorie intake

Excercise

People handle weight at different rates. Some people have a hard time gaining and some a hard time losing weight.

Answer:
He might have thyroid issues. I have a friend who tried eating 6000 calories per day plus working out to try and put on weight, but nothing happened. He went to the doctor and it turned out to be a thyroid thing. Start with the doctor and work from there.
